I had the same concern but I've just installed 10.8.2 on my SVE1711X1EB without an unlocked BIOS. Assuming you have windows installed on there, go to Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and look for something similar to 'Intel (R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI controller' I read that if you have that then you are already in AHCI mode. (and conversely if it's something like 'blah blah IDE Controller' then you are in IDE mode). How true that is I don't know but it sounds good enough for me.
