I had the same concern but I've just installed 10.8.2 on my SVE1711X1EB without an unlocked BIOS. Assuming you have windows installed on there, go to Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and look for something similar to 'Intel (R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI controller' I read that if you have that then you are already in AHCI mode. By the way am using the method outlined at: Also, I checked ' Laptop Support' while preparing the USB stick. Any help would be appreciated. Yea I had exactly the same problem see here: Specifically, see post #4 & #6. Someone had replied to me and I was answering him in some posts but now they have deleted their posts for some reason so you'll understand why it seems like I am replying to myself about random stuff!! So try deleting those kexts but back them up as you may need to install them later in s l e or e e.
