I have this old USB Mass Storage Device that I want to put files onto. When I plug it in, the computer makes the tone indicating that something was plugged in, but when I go to access the device, it says to insert a Removable Disk. Now, what I plugged in WAS classified as a Removable Disk, but Windows doesn't recognize that. I tried to check Devices and Printers to see if it appeared, and sure enough, it did.

But when I tried to manually access its files (by right-clicking and selecting Browse files,) the E: drive was there but grayed out. Then I checked Disk Management to try to do something about the E: drive, it appears there as Disk 1 and says No Media. Why is it doing this and how can I fix this? The Mac reseller said no problem, just get a PC card with a USB interface and you're all set. So I bought the card, plugged it in, and the icon appears on the desktop. All set there. Then I bought a new camera. Redgate sql toolbelt essentials. Another Olympus, but, alas, the simplicity of the old camera was gone.

That's okay, I spent a couple of hours with it and got it all figured out. Then I installed the camera's software, but down at the bottom of the instructions it said that I needed to get USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5 from the apple website and use it with OS 8.6 in order to download pictures to my HD. Well, apple no longer has that on their site, so I downloaded it from another source, and then from another when the first download didn't work. It opened and verified just prior to installation in both cases, but then I get the box that says: 'This program cannot run on your computer. See the documentation for more information.' The documentation says nothing.

I have a G3 Wall Street running OS 8.6 I wonder why Olympus would require such a thing and then not put a working version of the required software on their disk, or incorporate it into their program? I was very careful while selecting the PC card and the camera that it was compatible with my OS. And look, I got right down to the final chore before encountering a failure. Can anyone pull me through this? Someone who maybe remembers OS 8.6 from the old days? Hello: Short version: I cannot install USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5.
